You Don't Wear a Bra???
A friend of mine asked, “Hey, can I borrow a bra?”
“I don’t own a bra.” I responded.
“Not even one?” She said in shock.
“Not even one.” I confirmed.
⠀
Roughly three years ago, I was standing in front of the mirror, vexed. My bra kept peeking through and although I spent a fortune investing in one that was “supposed to be comfortable,” I was restricted.
⠀
Even more, I felt caged.
⠀
Bras, personally, have always felt like a hassle. Like a chore to wear. I can’t wait to get home and rip this shit off. It’s wildly uncomfortable.
⠀
𝘞𝘩𝘺 𝘸𝘢𝘴 𝘐 𝘸𝘦𝘢𝘳𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘪𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘯? I questioned.
⠀
Bras. Just another item women need to spend money on. Just another thing women are supposed to do. Just another way to cover up or contort our bodies. Just another rule to follow.
⠀
I thought, 𝘩𝘮𝘮, 𝘐’𝘷𝘦 𝘯𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘳 𝘥𝘰𝘯𝘦 𝘸𝘦𝘭𝘭 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘩 𝘳𝘶𝘭𝘦𝘴. 𝘞𝘩𝘺 𝘧𝘰𝘭𝘭𝘰𝘸 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘰𝘯𝘦? My inner rebel immediately came out to play and with a smug look on my face, I took it off, and walked out the door.
⠀
From that moment on, I decided, I’m going ditch bras. In celebration of this new liberating choice, I tossed out every single bra I owned. And let me tell you, I haven’t looked back.
⠀
This isn’t about wearing or not wearing a bra, this is about having a choice. This is about doing away with rules that don’t feel good to you and making your own.
