When the Affirmations Aren't Healing Your Relationship With Your Body
We can’t slather cheesy, bullshit quotes on deeply rooted issues and expect everything to be resolved. That’s just another way to bypass what’s really going on and remain naive to the problems.
When talking about body image, there’s a lot of fluff and cookie cutter approaches and bogus advice being offered and most of it really just keeps those patterns, pains, traumas alive because it’s not addressing the root issue.
There’s so much more involved with body image, it’s insulting to give watered down advice. The idea that healing just means you need to love all of you and that it’s resolved through mindset work is destructive and missing multiple parts.
There’s more pieces here than just flipping a light switch and repeating “I love myself” in the mirror. It’s digging to the root of *why* you feel unworthy because of your body...where these stories comes from.
And through that exploration, you’ll discover how much of it is entrenched in political crisis, cultural scripts, the patriarchy, racism; how much of it is designed to work against women, BIPOC, LBGTQ folks. To take notice of all the ways the world discriminates against people who live in certain bodies.
It really has little to do with loving how you look. It’s this notion that your worth, happiness, success, and SAFETY is contingent on your appearance.
It’s about taking back your autonomy, your power, your worth, and your RIGHTS.
There’s so much to unpack with body image and it’s not a simple light switch. Healing takes work, energy, digging, exploring, time—lots of time, so give yourself plenty.
