Self-Care that Doesn't Rob the Bank
“Self-care,” they say. “It’s the prescription to all your troubles. All you need is a $6 bath bomb, a nail saloon to make your feet pretty, and about 60 minutes every morning to mediate.”
⠀
“You should try it,” they encourage.
⠀
“Yeah that’d be nice,” you utter in slight sarcasm. “I’d love to do that. But, I’m stressed and making time for that in my already-too-many-things-do-list makes me more stressed.”
⠀
And so, you decide, nah, I’m good.
⠀
I don’t blame you, honey. Self-care has been commonly represented as being expensive and time-consuming. And in that sense it becomes a privilege, one that few have.
⠀
I get why you turn from the idea that you should devote to self-care—you don’t have the wherewithal, and you certainly don’t have that much time.
⠀
But what if, for a moment, you consider that self-care didn’t involve money or an excessive amount of time?
⠀
That it could be easily added into your day-to-day routine without having to bend over back, and somehow manage to fit it in your already toooo busy schedule.
⠀
Self-care comes in a myriad of forms. And sure, some of it does involve an investment and time. But, not all of it. Let’s explore, shall we?
⠀
📱 An Instagram Detox. Set time limits. Turn off notifications. Take a break for a day (or longer). Unfollow accounts that aren’t elevating you.
⠀
🙅♀️ Use the word no. Don’t over commit.
⠀
👍 Boundaries, set them—with people, with technology, with work.
⠀
🔌 Unplug in the morning and at night. And then, replace that time you’d spend scrolling, with something more therapeutic and grounding.
⠀
💦 Hydrate: drink water, you beautiful dehydrated bitch (😘).
⠀
😭 Talk about your feelings. Express them. Journal what’s coming up for you. Let it out. If you wanna heal, you have to feel, baby girl.
⠀
👯♀️ Ask for help, because you’re not winning anything from doing it on your own.
⠀
♥️ Give your body some love. Nourish it. Move it. Connect with it through dance, touch, s-ex.
⠀
🎶 Listen to your favorite music, because music is pleasure for the ears and for the soul.
⠀
