Do You Hate Exercise? Try This.

There are a myriad of ways to move the body, why box yourself into one?

In the last year, I’ve challenged myself to move outside the gym, and explore the innumerable ways I can live an active lifestyle.

There’s nothing wrong with the gym, of course, and I truthfully do find enjoyment in lifting weights. But recently I started to get jaded and lost in the monotony of it. The inspiration dried up, and I no longer found it as exciting as I once did.

When that happens, I’m sure you can relate, the desire to go isn’t there, motivation plummets, and you want to stop going altogether.

So, I did. I stopped.

I didn’t stop exercising, because that shits important, but I did stop exercising in the way that was no longer enjoyable to me.

Irrespective of what‘s said by fitness and diet culture, you don’t have to spend X amount of time in the gym, or be in the gym at all.

And often, we forget that. We get fixated on all the shoulds and all the rules. It makes fitness become this serious thing we have to do, which then leads us to neglect a habit that makes us feel really fucking good.

But, it doesn’t have to be that way.

Fitness can be fun, and when it is, you’ll view it as something you want to do, making it easier to commit to.

My challenge to you is the same I challenge I give my clients and myself when we’re stuck in a rut, say fuck the rules and do something fun.

So, what’s a playful, fun, new way you can move your body this week? 🤸‍♀️

To offer some ideas, here’s a list of what I did this year: took a pole dancing, and a hip-hop class. Hiked new trails. Taught myself how to long-board. Tried cross-fit. Went paddle boarding. Roller skated. Ice skated. Rock climbed. Did hot yoga. Kayaked. Danced the night away at music festivals (yes this counts).
